Happy 88th to Bill!

We did not schedule an A-La-Carte for this evening because we have family in from out of town to celebrate Dad’s 88th birthday! (Today – August 15, 2019)

Thank you for understanding that family is important and these milestones are ones to celebrate with family and close friends.

If you see Bill in your travels today, please feel free to wish him a Happy Birthday.

(PS – The Mercantile is celebrating it’s 31st Anniversary with an Open House on Saturday, August 24!)

Peach Blueberry Tart Recipe

Last evening we had Katie Dante come and have a LuLaRoe Pop-up Shop here at The Mercantile.  We had a marvelous time!

Thank you Katie!  And, thank you to her helpers, Mom (Karen), sister (Kellye) and soon-to-be LuLaRoe Consultant Jean… you all made load-in and load-out look like a well oiled machine! (We have another Pop-up on the calendar – stay tuned for the date!)

One of the refreshments we had for our guests was a Peach Blueberry Tart.  Although it does not use any of our mixes that we sell here, I have put it onto our recipe page.

We also had a Pumpkin Dessert Cheeseball and Buffalo Chicken Dip for people to enjoy.  Both of those recipes are also added to our recipe page.

Website Features

We hope you have had a chance to explore our website as we add and grow.

To the right of the main page is our “slide show” – here we are featuring photos of our class projects for current and upcoming classes, as well as a few that are selectable for Crafting A La Carte.

Under our “Classes” we are adding descriptions of the wide variety of things we have – and can – teach.  Please be patient – it is a large library of techniques, projects and mediums.  Look for lots of “eye candy” to give you an idea of what these classes are all about.

On our “Events” page you can see the upcoming classes, activities, meetings and special events.

A New Start

cottonboll copyFor those of you that have been in the store recently, you will have noticed that we’ve given ourselves a “facelift” – fresh paint, a new layout and a whole lot of fun.

Over the past year or so, we’ve been realizing that our website also needed a “facelift”, and that we wanted to bring together our facebook, blog and website activities into one place to make it easier for you to see what we are up to – what classes we’ve dreamed up, what new goodies we’ve added to our product lines, what shipments have just come in – and what fun we’re having!

Today’s the day for our fresh start – and we hope you will grow with us as we add to the site, expanding our online shopping offerings, bringing tutorials, and lots and lots of “eye candy” to the site.

When Life Gives You Limes – Make Pie

The title of the post is a quote from my nephew Ben.  I like it!

As some of you already know, Terri is having surgery tomorrow morning at 11.

The store will remain open.

Please check her note on our web site www.The MercantileStore.com  She explains why she is having surgery & what you can do to help out.

I will be posting updates here as I can.  But, if there isn’t anything up here yet, call the store for details.

Her surgery is scheduled to last nearly 3 hours.  And that being said, I do not know yet what time we will know anything.  Her husband Rodney will be at the hospital & will let us know as soon as he can, but his first priority is Terri.

Thank you all for being such wonderful people, friends & family.  Your support has been wonderful.

Cindy

Our New Craft Club Card Policy

We no longer accept Michael’s coupons, but…
we have revised our craft club card policy –

1. For every $5 of crafting supplies purchased, we will stamp the card.
2. A full card may be redeemed for $10 off the entire craft supply purchase OR 40% off one craft item at regular price.
3. Upon redeeming the card, please be sure to have your name and contact information (phone # and/or email) on the back of the card.
4. At the end of the last business day of each month, there will be a drawing from the cards redeemed that month. The winner will receive a $50 shopping spree throughout the store (excluding consignment).
This new policy is effective immediately.

A little more about the store…

Since I am posting this from home, I only have a few photos of class samples on my computer. This is a photo of my Copper Chain Necklace.

At The Mercantile we offer a wide array of creative classes. When Terri joined Mom & Dad at the store 13 years ago, she brought along her rubber stamping expertise. She had designed and manufactured her own line of decorative rubber stamps in England while living there. Thus started the classes. Over the years there have been technique calsses as well as project classes. When I joined the three of them 8 1/2 years ago, I was asked to fill in for a few of the Basic Rubber Stamping classes while Terri was on Maternity leave.

We now offer around 200 different classes in Rubber Stamping, Paper Crafting (including paper folding and Bookbinding, among others), and beading. The vast majority of our classes are taught by Terri and myself. We do have a few ‘guest’ instructors like Angela Hendrix, an extremely talented fused glass artist from Anderson, SC and Jo Hoffacker, another extremely talented local glass artist who specializes in bead making.

The Mercantile is not just about creativity. Mom & Dad started the store with the idea of it resembling an old-time country store, complete with bulk candy, candles and coffee beans. Most of the giftware at the very beginning was consignment from local crafters. After a while, other items were added, including Folkmanis Puppets and Melissa & Doug toys, Willow Tree figures and a selection of nativities. We also offer garden accents, Lang mugs and bread warmers from Seneca Ceramics. The bread warmers include a custom Pendleton, SC piece designed by Terri. On the shelves you will also find my Ebonyware Porcelain pottery.

The sample pot of coffee is always on so come on in and see what we have to offer.
