The days are getting shorter and the air is turning colder. Summer has slipped into fall, and soon winter will be upon us. Fall and Winter have always been the season of celebration for the Earl family. Most of our birthdays fall between October and March. Needless to say, this time of year was always awaited with great anticipation. Thanksgiving was spent at our Grandmother's house which was a 6 hour trip away. After all the dishes were washed, our Nana would pull out her pennies and we would sit around the dining room table playing cards, drinking tea, and enjoying our desserts. Thanksgiving Day, then the official start to the Christmas Season. Today, we find that the retailing industry has tried to push Christmas earlier and earlier. Yet, the time between September 1st and the end of November has so much to offer. At the Mercantile, we have resisted pushing our Christmas Decor earlier, albeit we have put up the garland and trees in the store, however they are decorated for the fall. Needless to say that will be changing over the next week, as Thanksgiving fast approaches. Merchandise for Christmas has been arriving daily, and we are so excited. We are planning where everything will go in our new layout. At market this summer, found some fantastic stocking stuffers for this year. From the Halladay's Harvest Barn Cheese cake and dip mixes to some little spinning tops. Our Christmas ornaments range from the elegant to the rustic. On the gift giving side we cannot forget the Wax Pottery from Habersham Candle Company. Plus we have 5 new nativities!! On Friday 29th November the Town of Pendleton will be having the annual Tree Lighting. We are planning on being open and hope that you can drop in and visit with us.
We wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving Day, and hope you are able to enjoy some memorable family time together. Best Wishes; from the Earl Girls (and Dad too.)
