Stenciled Butterfly Cookies

Supplies:

American Traditional FSP-02 Butterfly Ornament Stainless Stencil
Cookie Dough – your favorite recipe or buy a package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough.
Icing that dries hard (Royal Icing recommended)
Food Coloring       
Spatula or knife
Toothpick

Directions:

1.  Start with well chilled dough rolled out to ¼  inch thick.
2.  Place stencil on top of dough and press lightly.  Hold stencil in place with fingertips.
3.  Trace the outside of the stencil with a toothpick to cut through the dough.
4.  Lift stencil carefully, reposition and repeat until all of the dough is cut and no more shapes will fit.  Remove the surrounding scraps of dough carefully, re-roll them, and cut more shapes.
5.  Transfer the cookies to a baking sheet as directed by your recipe, and bake as directed.  Let cool thoroughly.
6.  Prepare icing according to directions.  Divide into small bowls and mix with food coloring to make as many different colors as you like.  Keep icing covered when not in use.  Be sure to keep some of the icing white.
7.  Ice the top of each cookie with white icing and let dry until hard.
8.  After white icing hardens, place stencil on top of iced cookie.
9.  Spread colored icing through stencil with a spatula or straight edge of a dinner knife.   Hold stencil firmly to prevent smearing.
10. Slowly lift stencil off cookie (pull straight up) and repeat with each cookie.
11. Let icing dry until hard.  Enjoy!!!
